He also detected a leak in the bathroom drainpipe, assessed the condition of the pipes from kitchen catch basin to septic and estimated the cost of replacing these pipes. Eric and Dan returned on Friday, 9/30/22 to replace said pipes, and they did an outstanding job. Their work ethic was excellent. They went over and above what they were expected to do and helped us in keeping our pipes in working order. They were friendly and polite. Their estimate was almost to the dollar! Gilbert and Chris make a great team as Gilbert is able to explain what the procedure is going to be and what would be the alternative if it did not work, and Chris was able to answer any questions that I had. They both made sure that the issue was solved prior to leaving, and made me inspect the work that they had done to see if I was happy. Not only did they solve the issue, but Gilbert discussed how the issue could be prevented in the future and what steps I needed to take to keep all my drains happy. Extremely happy with the quality and customer service that both Gilbert and Chris provided.

  • Patricia Johnson rated it 4/5: Excellent service. The toilet my 93-year-old mother uses became plugged and we needed immediate attention to the problem. Gilbert arrived within the 2-hour time frame we were given when we placed the call, and he was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. He immediately understood the problem and how to fix it. Prior to starting work, he reviewed the costs of the repair, so we know what we were getting into. The costs were high, but the plugged toilet HAD to be fixed so we went ahead with repairs. Gilbert completed the work, cleaned up the area and we will definitely ask for him again if we need any further plumbing work. Gilbert defiantly gets a 5-star rating!!! The ONLY reason this entire review isn't a 5-star rating is due to the high cost of the repair.

Winters saw my review and Mike came back to take a look at the radiator cover. He was able to jimmy the radiator cover back on without having to touch the new valve or controller. He explained that he had installed the valve controller at an angle to make it more accessible for future repairs, and pointed out that the cover had never fitted quite right before the valve replacement, although the angle had certainly made it worse. He gave me some suggestions for how to modify the sheet metal to fit better, without having to pay for a plumber's time to do that job. Overall I'm satisfied — I still wish it hadn't taken extra visits to fix issues but I'm very impressed with their responsiveness.

Feb. 2022 update:
I'm changing my rating to 3 stars now based on recent service calls. Our boiler is working well, and overall we are happy — the folks at Winters are very responsive when we call; communication is great, and both the office and the technicians are respectful and professional. But we've had a couple of issues recently with their work. In December 2021 we paid $555 to replace a leaky air vent, but less than a month later it was leaking again and when another tech followed up, it became clear that no new part had actually been installed. That issue has been fixed now (at no additional charge) but a couple of weeks ago we found that one of the zone valves Winters replaced just a year and a half ago has failed already (the previous one lasted over 10 years), to the tune of another $743. The replacement was installed solidly but at a tilted angle so it no longer fits inside the metal sheathing around the radiator (photos attached). Overall everything seems to be working well now, for which we are very thankful. But it no longer feels like a 5-star experience.

2020 review (5 stars):
Zane wrote the estimate for the boiler and zone valve replacement project for our condo building. He was extremely responsive, answering all of my (many) followup questions over several phone calls. We got quotes from 5 different companies and Zane was the only one who pointed out that we had a lifetime warranty on our current stainless steel water tank so we did not need to replace that part of the system. He also carefully did the sizing calculation up front to determine that we could safely downsize from our previous system. Between these two items, he saved us thousands of dollars.
Brad did the installation for us. He took great care with every detail, keeping me fully informed of the status as the project progressed. He cheerfully answered all of my questions, explaining what he was doing and why. The whole project took a bit longer than we had expected but it was well worth it — nothing was done in a rush and I feel very confident in the quality of the installation. (I might have slowed him down with my questions but thanks to this, I was able to get a good understanding of the new system so we can keep it properly maintained.)
All my interactions with the front office have been really positive as well. Everyone has been very courteous and they seem to be right on top of things. This is a huge factor for us since it removes any uncertainty about scheduling and billing. It seems to me that everyone we've interacted with at this company is in the loop and working together to make sure we are happy.
From start to finish, we had an excellent experience with Winters on this project. We're looking forward to working with them to keep the new system maintained (and maybe do some A/C work for us as well).

They even tried a 4th option and IT WORKED!! They even let me hang around and ask all kinds of questions and provided me with super helpful tips and ways to get the most life out of our unit. Each time we appreciated reaching a person very easily to schedule the issue, they were very on top of letting us know when they were arriving – both giving a window ahead of time & then when on the way – and were helpful and professional when working, and being in our home. We've had problems previously getting contractors to be available more than once, (somehow!), so we really appreciate how easy it is to reach them & how they're able to schedule quickly, as well as reliably show up to perform the service! They also seem to charge a flat rate per service, (plus any parts of course) not by the hour, which seems to ensure that they'll do the job right, rather than only focus only on how quickly they're getting it done.

Lucas and Danny did the installation, the neatest and most articulate plumbers we have ever had. They worked smoothly together, efficiently, explained what they were doing and why, showed us alternative models online, and even left us a little water heater to tide us over until the big one arrived (we hadn't thought to ask). They gave us 10 minutes' notice before arriving. New to Boston, we have found our new plumber! We recommend wholeheartedly and without reservation.

    In addition to installing a new garbage disposal unit in the sink he thoroughly inspected our heating system and then purchased and installed a new thermostat. He then proceeded to program its electronic controls and showed us how to change them if we need to do so.
    He was quite accomplished, and if we ever need assistance again we will be requesting him to work on whatever project we may need help with in the future.

Boston Standard staff was consistently punctual and professional, work was clean and organized. The inefficient WeilMcClain boiler relied on a maze of piping to supply our radiators and storage tank and was sitting on over 24 sq ft of limited basement space. The new wall mounted Lochinvar combi system gave us unobstructed paths to our laundry area, with clear supply lines, an easily accessible shutoff/purge valve for multiple zones. Air intake/venting were strategically placed to avoid patio area (which was greatly appreciated for aesthetic reasons). The electrical team was equally impressive utilizing the existing chase to run wiring for multiple thermostats, exterior sensor and multiple zone relay. The project managers were constantly involved and followed up to ensure all worked well. The rebate team ensured we sent in required documentation in a timely manner. This project moved us from a system 75% efficiency rating to a top of the line 95%. We truly appreciated the varied possibilities offered during the initial walk through. This knowledgeable team ensured that we set our house up to meet energy needs right now and for expansion projects in the near future. It was lovely to work with a company that layered in all necessary teams from assessment and planning, to removal and disposal of old equipment to complete installation with both electrical and plumbing and to receive high quality service from all.

The technician was helpful and was able to access our unit on our roof. He didn't have a part on hand but called another representative in the area who brought him the part and the repair was made that day. Good timing too as the next day was the hottest day of the year so far and our AC worked wonderfully and kept us comfortable. Thank you!

Although they may be slightly pricier than some competitors, the quality of service is worth it to me. There were minor communication issues about Mass Save rebates but it was resolved quickly and respectfully. I also used Boston Standard last year to install a heat pump hvac system. I recommend them highly.

I can't miss work and wait around all day for a plumber, so my retired neighbor let them in. Then they stood around for half an hour and left without doing a thing! Apparently they needed to speak with me before they could do the job. I'M AT WORK! I CAN'T ANSWER THE PHONE! I TOLD YOU THE PROBLEM, SO PLEASE GO FIX IT! Instead they wasted everyone's time. Then I called Vaughan Plumbing & Heating– also local to Hyde Park– and they gave me an UPFRONT COST! How hard is that, McMahon?! I left a check for them for the amount they quoted me, and the job was done the day after McMahon did absolutely nothing. For plumbing issues, please use VAUGHAN P & H! I have no idea what McMahon expects. I have a job– my life doesn't revolve around you. I guess if you are available to stay home all day, then McMahon might be able to fix your plumbing problem. I'll never know! For the rest of us who live in the real world, McMahon is a total waste of time (at least for plumbing issues).

They left the place as clean and dry as they found it, and the pricing was better than all of their competitors for the same system. I would recommend McMahon to anyone looking for a hot water heater replacement

By Sunday afternoon, the wonderful folks from McMahon were in our basement, discussing options for replacement that could be done that day or the next. We chose the tankless system and McMahon said we’d have hot water again by 3:30 the next afternoon. And we did! The old broken tank was gone and the hot water was working again at 3pm — a half hour early!
    This is a great company. They show up when they say they will, they know their stuff, and they are kind and helpful in stressful situations such as flooded basements. Give them a call when you need a plumber. You’ll be glad you did.

  • P F rated it 2/5: McMahon provided excellent service. Everyone is professional and polite. They came quickly and did a fine job. BUT … the cost was shocking. They charged me around $900 for something that took less than a bit more than an hour, and required a few common and inexpensive parts. They don't break down how much of the bill is parts and how much is labor so it's difficult to discuss it with them. I do know they have flat fee that they charge per visit (something like $160)… in addition any charges for parts and labor. They came to my house twice because they lacked a part on the first visit and charged me this fee twice. So that's $300 before they even start charging for labor or parts. Even at $600 it would be expensive considering that it was a small and fast repair. Despite the high quality of their work and their customer service I won't use them again.

Matt was up front about all costs and provided the pros and cons for each option. The quote he offered was $4000 more than another company which I showed him. But what he promised was that I would NOT get any headache and he would help with filing the rebate with Mass Save to change from oil to gas. He delivered on that promise! I had zero headache and after 3 months just received my rebate. The installation team, Anthony and his assistant Joey were professional and on time. I didn't have to waste time babysitting them and went to the gym while they did the work. Danielle who did the schedule for the installation was great as well. I am pleased with the company, the people I interacted with. They were friendly and professional. I would highly recommend using Trust 1 Services. Thank you!

    My problem here is that the price was OBSCENE.

    I called them out to replace the kitchen faucet, which had broken. It's a job I'd normally do myself, but I just had wrist surgery. I had already shut off the water and disconnected the faucet, so all I needed them to do was remove the old faucet and install the new one, which I had already purchased and had on hand.

    When they arrived, they quoted $605 — SIX HUNDRED AND FIVE DOLLARS — plus the standard $99 truck charge. So my options were to pay them a hundred bucks to do nothing and go look for another plumber who would do it for the $200-300 I was expecting, and lack a functioning kitchen in the meantime. Or I could grit my teeth, pay them a little over $700 to do one of their easiest jobs of the day and at least have a functioning kitchen right away. I opted for the latter.

    As predicted, they were here less than an hour.

    Adding insult to injury, they tried to upsell me on a $200 annual "membership" that would provide a 20% discount on this and any future work.

    As I noted at the outset, the work they did was excellent, and I have no complaints there. It simply should have cost half or less what they actually charged me, and that left a poor taste in my mouth.

    I first used their service for the regular maintenance of our multi purpose tankless water heater. Matt was great and walked me the process and did a great good at explaining concepts not familiar to me to ensure I understood what he was specifically doing. He also stressed the importance of regular maintenance to prevent any long term costly issues which I appreciated. Matt was also extremely responsive answering texts and phone calls especially on one off questions I had.

    I then had an issue with my tankless water heater after the birth of our first child and when returning home we did not have hot access to hot water. I texted Matt who was again very responsive and both his father, Drew and brother AJ, quickly came out to fix the issue within a few hours.

  • Nick Leger rated it 2/5: I called BBP after noticing a water leak behind my washer machine. Ryan was able to come out and assess the situation within 24 hours and scheduled Tom to inspect and repair.

    Tom came out two days later and was able to spot the source of the leak, and suggested i replace my entire washer/dryer stack. I declined, since the leak just appeared to be a $30 hose to have failed. Tom also suggested the HVAC unit nearby needed to be cleaned, to which I mentioned I have an HVAC service scheduled for two weeks later. After the weekend, Tom came back with a new hose to repair and tried charging me $900 after claiming to have serviced my HVAC (though he wouldn't tell me exactly what he did) and replaced gas hoses to the dryer which was absolutely unnecessary.

    I've used many home professionals in the past and I've never felt like I've tried to get taken advantage of until now. Giving two stars since I assume the work was actually completed within a week, but to be charged $900 for a hose replacement is absolutely shameful. I strongly recommend using another local professional for plumbing issues.
