Milo was so pleasant and informative, offering suggestions on how to best maintain my heater (and plumbing) in between appointments. Additionally, he offered memberships for cost savings, and answered all my furnace-related questions related. Not only do I feel ready for winter but am also prepared to take care of that monster in the crawl space until its annual service next year. I am filled with glee by the effort and insight Milo provided. His professionalism helped turn a task that I typically put off as long as possible – into a very pleasant one.

The technician Brian N. came out and explained everything to us and gave us the available options. It was too late in the day to replace the hot water heater, but he was back out by 8:30 the next morning and removed the old heater and installed the new one in just 2.5 hours. The new heater now has a tray underneath it that drains to the floor drain and a water alarm installed in the tray to warn if there is a leak. Brian was very courteous, professional and knowledgeable and did the job quickly and efficiently. Overall an excellent experience with Applewood Plumbing and with Brian. I would be comfortable recommending them to anyone I know.

The people setting the appointments on the phone seem to be humans who actually enjoy working with the public. I needed an emergency response and they kept their appointment on time within only a couple of hours of my call! Very impressive! I’ve heard they run on the expensive side… but I believe sometimes you get exactly what you pay for. No nonsense, fair & thorough explanations of the work needed, appropriate behavior in the home, fun attitude while working. Loved it. As much as a person could love a surprise plumbing bill.

I contacted A Better Plumber for an emergency water leak of my water heater and my indoor water main valve. They came out the next day to help me shut off the water and started repairs a day after that. The water heater was overdue to be replaced and so was the valve. They sold me a new tankless water heater, a new shutoff valve, a pressure reducing valve, and an inline filter. The total cost was just under $13,000. The installers were professional, the work was good, and the job was done in about a day. I thought the price was a little high but the job was done well and done quick so I let it go. I was a little bothered when they pressured me to sign a document waiving my right to cancel the job within three days but since the job was complete in under three days I let that go, too.

I also had a potential sewer issue marked on my inspection (I recently purchased the house) so I asked them to take a look. The person they sent out to inspect the sewer took one look and immediately said all of the cast iron had to be replaced because the additives they put in our food corrode cast iron and if I don't replace it right away it will leak beneath my foundation and cause major problems. He also said the plumbing leading to the cast iron (the "main stack") was outdated and needed to be completely replaced. The estimate he sent to replace the main stack plus 20 feet of interior sewer line was $12,500. I was uneasy with his hard-sell tactics, pushing for immediate repair and pressuring again to have me waive my right to cancel. I decided to call another plumber for a second opinion.

The second company says there isn't any clear damage to the cast iron. They offered to do a cleaning for $350 before inspecting again. If it truly needs to be replaced they said it should be around $8000 at the highest. They also said that the main stack was clearly recently replaced and in good condition. They ran scopes around to inspect it as well, which A Better Plumber didn't do.

I did some quick searching to find pricing for the items A Better Plumber installed in the first job vs what they charged me. Here's what I found:
* Navien NPE-241A2 Tankless Water Heater – Google: $1900 – A Better Plumber: $9599
* Halo 9 Inline Filter – Google: $500 – A Better Plumber: $1800
* PRV-100 Pressure Reducing Valve – Google: $200-$500 – A Better Plumber: $1398.99

My opinion: They did a good job. They charged a LOT of money. They tried to upsell unnecessary repairs. I will not do business with them again.

Edit to respond to Jeff, the Owner:
When I had the first job done, I was impressed by Beau and Jimmy's work. They were professional, they seemed to know what they were doing, and they got the job done. I felt uneasy at the cost but I understood it was a quick response and, in general, I'm willing to pay a premium for professional work. The prices I listed above come straight from the invoice they gave me. There was no separate line item for finance costs. That was advertised as 0%. (No mention of any added fees)

For the second job, your man Jansen came out. He told me that additives in food will rot cast iron, especially if it is right below the kitchen. He told me that the main stack was clearly original and had to be replaced (it was actually a replacement for the original cast iron, in good shape, and the next plumber showed me how to tell). He told me within seconds of the scope hitting the pipe that it was "bottomed out" and clearly needed emergency replacement. He never mentioned cleaning or further inspections. He also pushed me to waive my right to cancel even though the earliest he could start the job would be four days later. It was his hard-sell used-car-salesman tactics that soured my opinion of the whole business and led me to question all of the work done up to that point.

My bottom line is that the first job was a good job and it was incredibly expensive. Other people can look at the numbers and decide for themselves. The numbers are straight from the invoice.

He took it upon himself to schedule a technician to come out on Saturday to perform the work that needed to be done. Ian showed up on time on Saturday and was very professional, thorough and extremely nice. He walked me through everything he was doing and did an excellent job cleaning out our sewer line that had a great deal of root intrusions. I would recommend Roto-Rooter to everyone I know that has plumbing needs.

At 930pm I asked for an update and was told I was still next. At 1130 pm they called and said it will be another 3-4 hours and I can reschedule for the next day for $75 off. They arrived at 830 am and unclogged the drain from my sink to the sewer line, 15 min and a $450 bill. They did honor the $75 off and the technician Forty was great. He was super professional and helpful. If you are okay with a steep bill then during working hours I would recommend. Outside of regular hours I would never use this company again.

We called Roto-Rooter and they sent out Keaton Sunley. Keaton was amazing!! He worked so hard trying to figure out what was causing the clog. He was honest, on time, straightforward, and persevered through an intense auger session that was to no avail. I talked to a manager and told him I wanted a cable cleaning and needed 135 feet from my outside clean-outs to the main. He said ok. When technicians came, they tried to up sell me to the jet process. ($913 more than their cable service) I said no and said I wanted the cable service. I asked if they had the 135 foot cable I asked for, the said no, they only had a 100 foot cable. I went on and had the service done. It costs me $150 more than my previous service.

We ran into some issues at the beginning of our sewer line replacement job, so one of the owners, Ian, came out to discuss options to resolve it. His team took care of the issue, and completed the job on time as was promised, even with the additional issues. I told Ian we were willing to pay extra for the extra work, but Ian said he would honor the quote and not take additional money. Jake did our estimate and he was very informative and polite, no high pressure sales, just an honest assessment of our sewer replacement project. Pablo and his crew did an excellent job repairing our sewer line; the clean up crew came the next day and did a great job cleaning up. After the clean up, you could hardly tell the work was done. I put my plantings back in place, added topsoil, miracle grow, and grass seed to the dig site, watered three times a day, and in only about a week, the grass has filled in perfectly. Get these guys to replace your sewer line. It's a pleasure working with them.

My wife and I bought a home last year that had previously experienced a severe sewer line backup into the basement (caused by a snag in the city lines) before we bought the home. This backup effected four of our neighbors homes as well. Apex worked with us on an affordable and preventative solution to this ever happening again. Lyric and the team at Apex plumbing were professional, on time, and responsive during the process. We'll certainly use them again for any repair and/or improvements going forward. Highly recommended!

I was not going to be able to host the wedding without it being fixed. Apex Plumbing did the emergency fix in two days! Amazing!
Alan P rated it 5/5: We have an old house with two sewer lines that were 100 years old. The main line was problematic and the other line was getting there. I proposed a plan to crossover from one side of the house to the other with all new lines and that is what Apex did. The interior work consisted of some concrete demolition and updated plumbing and the exterior was trenching around lots of obstacles.
The work took five days from beginning to end, including a partial shutdown of Quebec, and the work is excellent. The impact to our yard was minimal and the guy that ran the backhoe was awesome while working around our young trees.

Jack, who did our estimate and was my contact throughout the process, was responsive and thorough and very pleasant to work with! When the guys had to dig a little into our garden, they literally replaced every single plant and stone back where it was so you couldn’t even tell they were there!! Not to mention that I got another estimate that was $9,000 more than Apex!! For the same job! These guys are awesome.
Denver 80231 rated it 5/5: Had to completely replace my sewer line out to the city tap. They did a great job at a fair price. Yes, it's expensive but it needed to be done. They gave some options to piece meal the job but I decided just to have the complete sewer line replaced and be done with it. They had a great crew with good equipment and got the job done on time. My plumber (Jake the Snake) recommended them and I couldn't be happier with the way it all turned out.

The most impressive thing about my experience with Nick is that we was able to fix my drain in a short amount of time, he fixed the problem and did not try to upsell me on anything I did not need. I have had 4 other plumbers out here to clear my drain in the past and none of them could solve the problem with out trying to charge me several hundred dollars in repairs I did not need.

Based on my experience with Nick, I will never use any other Sewer Service in the future and would tell all my friends to only use Garvin from here on out.

Ally Sun rated it 5/5: Wow. I bought this condo 3 years ago, not knowing how bad the plumbing was in this hi-rise. I've had to have plumbers out constantly. Called another service this weekend but they couldn't remove the clog in the garbage disposal line. I don't cook with grease or animal fats (vegetarian) and haven't used this disposal in over a year due to these drainage problems but it was still backing up due to what others must be putting down their drains. I hadn't heard of Garvin's but the building had them come out to snake my line again. Wow. Daniel cleared everything out in half the time than the other service guy was here, tested it to make sure everything was running fine, then cleaned everything up like he was never here! But he was, folks. I have a clear drain to prove it! If you need a reliable service definitely give them a call. Ask for Daniel, you won't go wrong.

A week ago I used the services of another plumbing company which charged over $450 to snake my sewer line. 6 days later the line had backed up again, this time with no drainage whatsoever. A friend suggested Garvin's and they sent Nick out within an hour.
He worked diligently for 2 hours using different techniques which the previous company hadn't even attempted. He got the line cleared and said we are good to go…

The previous company wanted over $300 for a camera to scope the line, on top of the $450. Garvin's charged $198 and said there was no need for a camera at this time. Over $250 in savings and with a positive result.

It's great to see that there are still companies out there which are not trying to screw the customer and offer first-rate services and technicians to address the issue. Thanks.

Drain back up again a week later and Nick was here first thing the next morning made the repair again and was awesome. Thanks for the great job and standing behind your work Garvin's sewer service.
