After having another company come in first for a chimney sweep and inspection, we brought NLC in for a second opinion – and found that they offered a more competitive rate and a much more pleasant customer relations experience. We specifically very much enjoyed working with Jesse – he walked us through what was needed in a thorough and easy-to-understand manner (vs the salesman pitch we got from the other company). Jesse and his colleague were early to both the inspection and the chimney repair a few weeks later – and they somehow managed to get all of the repair work done in one day despite a pretty significant amount of damage to fix. We would highly recommend!

This company up sells products based on false evaluations. I requested an inspection and cleaning for two flues but following the initial evaluation the basic price jumped to $2638 due to the ‘presence of level 3 creosote crystals.’

I received a second quote from another company and the provider laughed hard at Chimney Services Inc evaluation. No level 2 creosote crystals let alone level 3 present in either flue and one flue didn’t even require a cleaning just a brush to remove cobwebs.

Be very careful with this company…

I called United Home Services and spoke to Keith; unlike other Seattle-area companies who were making me wait 21 days until I could see one of their guys, Keith had me set up for 48 hours later. Keith was friendly and professional. Right on time, at 9am promptly on the day scheduled, Tal showed up and diagnosed the problem properly. I am no expert, but I have some technical knowledge and I could tell that Tal did not simply follow a rote list of things to check, but really diagnosed the problem, and fixed it, installing a new remote-controller. He also gave me some pointers as to what may need to be replaced next – but doesn't need to be replaced now. He was polite, professional, courteous, knowledgeable, intelligent; a real credit to the company. I will use them again, and I would highly recommend them.

The experience was mostly a positive one – the customer service service POC I initial spoke with (Keith) was helpful and friendly – and able to schedule a prompt visit. The technicians unfortunately did not arrive within the scheduled window and we did not receive any communication from them – I had to call them to check-in shortly after the window closed, but they did arrive about an hour later. The technician (Sean) and his colleague worked quickly to inspect and clean the chimney, and then sat down to go through the needed repair work and offer an estimate on the work. We ended up having a second vendor come by to give us a second look, and they were able to offer a slightly more affordable rate. As such, we are not planning to work with United Home Services on the repair work, but we are pleased with the inspection and cleaning they performed!
Ethan Choi rated it 2/5: Hired UHS for air duct and dryer vent clean. The team was super responsive, communicative and came out on short notice. However the quality and thoroughness of work was disappointing. The underside of most of vent covers had layer of dust on them (not sure if cleaning vent covers was something they did but other companies I've hired in the past always did) and the technician completely misidentified the dryer vent exhaust. After locating the actual exhaust myself I had to have the technician come back and clean the dryer vent. After the second visit I inspected the dryer vent intake (behind the dryer) and there was still balls of lint in the duct. Disappointing since I explicitly asked the tech if he was able to clean the intake side, which he said yes to, but clearly didn't (or did a poor job of it). They offered to come back out a third time but at this point I've lost confidence in their work.
My experience has to be an anomaly since UHS appears to have a lot of satisfied customers and my interaction with them was positive. However, the experience has me a little sour about the cost vs quality of work.

When I saw their advertisement online for $170 for cleaning service I called and repeatedly asked if this included everything for the service. I let them know I wanted all ducts, vents and returns cleaned and I was assured more than once that service was all inclusive. Once the technician showed to my house he then told me "deep cleaning" was different and it would be $540 dollars. When I tried to understand and ask questions the Technician ELI was VERY RUDE very unprofessional, talked over me and even raised his voice and brought religion into the matter. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY again and I don't recommend anyone else to ever. Religion should never be brought into a business communication especially when you are being called out for dishonest communication. NOT HAPPY

Dick, the owner, is one of those amazing type of men that remind me of my father: honest, polite, helpful and knowledgeable to name but a few. Dick and his crew did masonry/point and tuck work for us that allowed us to keep our existing chimney with an architectural top. Work is top notch. And because Excel chooses to rely on word-of-mouth instead of glitzy advertising and custom-made, fancy bidding portfolios, Dick's prices don't have to include advertising product and design fees. Also, Dick was recommended by both two other masons who were too busy and our roofer, Aza of Mountain Goat Roofing. They know who's good and said Dick is one of the best ever. Our family agrees.

Yvonne Williams rated it 5/5: My 85 year old chimney was crumbling and needed so much help. When it rained outside, it rained into my fireplace. Jeremy and his crew rebuilt it from the roofline up and tuck pointed from the roofline down. The flashing was redone, a new cleanout door installed and also a new flue liner. They were able to clean my bricks and reuse them. It's SO pretty now!! I appreciated their communication with what they were doing each day, how long it would take, and what rooms they would need access to. They were very willing to answer every question. Jeremy wore his mask inside, took off his boots, and made sure the jobsite was clean when they were entirely finished. I did end up waiting a few months for a start date, but it was worth the wait. When you
spend money on a larger project you want to love it and I LOVE MY "NEW" CHIMNEY!!! As a side note this company was more affordable than the 3 other estimates I got. Thank you Excel Chimney.
Erik Hansen rated it 5/5: These guys do awesome work. Jose was the lead on our chimney and he was super nice and detail-oriented. It was leaning away from the house because a previous repair was done wrong. It also did not have a flue liner or any significant earthquake reinforcements and the mortar and a few bricks were crumbling. We were "quite a project". They tore the chimney down to the roof line and rebuilt it, about 15 feet, and replaced the mortar down to the 12 inches below the ground (they dug down to replace the mortar below grade, which i was so glad they recommended) I am so glad we went with Excel. They also tuck pointed our front entry which now looks amazing and gives us peace of mind. Would recommend these guys in a heart beat.
todd thomas rated it 5/5: It was a pleasure to work with Excel Chimney from start to finish. They were clear upfront when they could come inspect our chimneys and give us a quote. The quote came in under their estimated time frame, just a couple days later. We trusted the great reviews here and hired them for the job. Our two chimneys were both in rough shape, one needed some brick rebuilding and both needed new capping/flashing. Even on our steep roof, the team was safe and got the work done in the exact estimated time. And our fireplace no longer leaks, so I'm a very happy customer. Thanks so much.
