With the renovations now complete, I can say without a doubt my only regret is that I hadn’t found Pokorn Construction sooner. However, after a year of prospective contractors that scheduled time to look at my project but never came, and others who came but never provided me the estimate they promised, and yet others who did provide an estimate but with such vague detail of the work they’d be doing throughout my house, or an idea of what exactly any of my frenovations would like in the end, it was clear to see Pokorn’s commitment to set itself apart from all the others that came before them.From first time they came out to discuss my projects/best options for each, to the day we called it a job well done, they provided clear and consistent communication, skilled labor that arrived on time each day, and a commitment to deliver each renovation in the way they were promised, and with standard of quality and workmanship that can not be questioned.
I cannot recommend Pokorn Construction enough, and I’m thankful to them for returning us the joy and excitement we began this process with a year and a half ago.

He said it would be two weeks to work up the quote. 6 weeks later … We have never heard back. I’ve emailed, called and texted the project manager and the owner for follow-up. I have received no response, not even to say we are working on it or we can’t take your project. Nothing. This is unfortunate. The company’s work get great reviews but even if they responded to me now, I am not sure I would ever feel comfortable hiring them.Edited to add: The company owner reached out to me. They are overwhelmed with work and fell behind on communication.

Kevin spent 4 days at my house working through a long list (dry wall repair, door trim replacement, tile repair, attic insulation and more). On top of the great work Kevin did, I found myself in a real bind because another workman was giving me the run around for over a month to do some facia repairs. I told Dallas about my issue and he sent David out a few days later to fix that. The work done by both of them was terrific. Even better, they all showed up on time every time and communicated all the way through. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I’ve already referred my parents to Ace Handyman and absolutely recommend them.

-They did not remove the debris from the property.
-The workers did not want to paint the door which I was quoted on receiving.
-The workers did not have the lumber needed to install the door so I let them use some of mine.
-They did not install flashing on the exterior side of the door which will require me to install it to prevent water from getting into the home.

I specifically addressed the painting and flashing issues and they gave me $50 off the job but based on the quality of their work up to that point I figured it was going to be easier for me to do it myself correctly than to redo their paint job.

The door does function well now but I still have several more hours of work to do to finish the job.

They cleaned the site of any debris each day. They completed the work in the time frame promised. Once the project was done they sent pictures of the finished work. We are very pleased with our new staircase and will definitely use Nola Handyman for any future projects. We highly recommend them!

When Rick came out to give me the estimate, he was professional, patient, and accommodating with my questions and concerns. Although they were busy, he made the extra effort to fit me in with consideration to my work schedule. During the two days of the job, the two-man crew was prompt, considerate, skilled, and super nice. One request I have for the future is that they please let the customer know when they are leaving the property; I did discuss with Rick and he was very receptive. Rick stayed in communication during the job as issues arose and were dealt with. He returned after job completion and finalized everything with me to my satisfaction. steele haile rated it 5/5: I have used “Uptown Restoration” several times in years past, and always have been pleased and impressed with their high standards and skill levels. However, I never anticipated how much I would depend on them until my house burned in August, 2018. Although the fire was severe, many pieces of my furniture did not burn, but everything suffered extreme water and smoke damage. My family treasures looked terrible and were in pretty bad shape, but “Uptown Restoration” came promptly to my rescue. They showed up, quickly, at my ruined house with their moving van and picked up many loads of big and small pieces. Over a relatively brief time of 5 months, Bobby, Peter, and the entire staff of skilled artisans were able to accomplish the seemingly impossible and restored my many antiques to only what I can describe as a BEAUTIFUL condition. That awful smoke odor was totally eliminated, and their completed appearance was stunning, never belying what awful experience each heirloom had been through.Furthermore, “Uptown Restoration” is well connected within the antique community and were able to match me with appraisers, rug cleaners, fabric restorers, and upholsterers.
Without their knowledgeable help, I do not know how I would have gotten through this personal crisis.

One is an armchair ladderback from william and Mary period (1720’s) both had rush seats that had deteriorated and broken, i didnt want to trust these chairs to anyone
Boy was i glad when I found this place!! Professional to the core, knowledgeable and an expert craftsman! He put new rush seats in both chairs and they are once again functional and better than ever! His restoration was true to the history of the chairs and historic form. He maintained constant communication and did the work on both chairs in less than a week! I highly reccomend this place, you will not be disappointed!

Everything was taken care of and it just looks like nothing ever happened. Lawrence followed up many of times, gave me updates, was flexible around my schedule, and just managed the whole project professionally. Would go back in a heartback for the next job I need!

His attention to details and quick turnaround were unmatched. I really love the job he did and would recommend him to anyone. As I said above, I have seen other larger projects he has done, and I have always been impressed with his work. I am glad he finally started his own company and will refer clients to him when I come across them.

However, Lawrence went above and beyond and keeping me informed on the quoting process, and throughout the purchasing of materials, through to completing the job. He was able to fit my job in between a couple of his larger scheduled jobs, which really helped out.He gave me receipts for everything purchased, and his pricing was very competitive. I will be calling him again next time I have another project.

Due to the age of the home, Lawrence was able to address the challenges through his ability, knowledge and workmanship. The home is a show piece and I am reminded of Lawrence’s talents everytime a guest visits for the first time.

I’m not sure how he accomplishes this, it’s very impressive. He has magic woodworking skills and he’s a pleasure to work with!

He also created a piece for extra support of the additional leaves to the long table. In the past he designed and built a pair of lovely dressers to fit in a hard to fit area in our bedroom. He recently finished a pretty cabinet in our powder room. He is a true artisan and his work is flawless.
K O rated it 2/5: I called and gave information with pictures of repairs I needed done. I was told it would take half a days work and it would be $250.00.
They arrived at 9:15am. Did a fairly poor job filling a chip on an antique highboy. Other minor touch ups and some areas that needed fill, sanded and finished on a chair. The fill in one area still shows a dimple, otherwise the minor finish touch ups on same chairs were fine.
They finished the job and were leaving st 10:15am. 1 hour after they arrived. When I asked what I owed him he said we agreed on $250.00. I was quite shocked. I wrote the check which he asked to be written to ‘Cash’. As I handed it to him I said I thought it would less since the $250.00 was for a half days work not an hour. His assistant said well we started loading up our equipment at 8:15.
Ok… so from 8:15 to 10:15 when they left was 2 hours. I always thought a half days work would mean 4 hours.
I feel like I was taken advantage of and would highly recommend you get an hourly rate from this guy or you will end up paying a lot of money for very little time spent doing the repairs. In addition, there is a stain on the fabric which is a brand new chair. It is an S code fabric which means it has to be cleaned with a dry cleaning solvent. I will contact him on Monday, and expect him to come back out and remove the stain without ruining the fabric or I will expect him to pay to have the chair reupholstered and it’s very expensive fabric. We will see how honest he is.

Turns out only needed to replace about half the shingles, saving me money. The job was completed the next day within a few hours. I am very satisfied with the work and would call them again for any minor work around the house.
