Kathryn deGraaf rated it 4/5: March 2022 update;
Winters saw my review and Mike came back to take a look at the radiator cover. He was able to jimmy the radiator cover back on without having to touch the new valve or controller. He explained that he had installed the valve controller at an angle to make it more accessible for future repairs, and pointed out that the cover had never fitted quite right before the valve replacement, although the angle had certainly made it worse. He gave me some suggestions for how to modify the sheet metal to fit better, without having to pay for a plumber's time to do that job. Overall I'm satisfied — I still wish it hadn't taken extra visits to fix issues but I'm very impressed with their responsiveness.

Feb. 2022 update:
I'm changing my rating to 3 stars now based on recent service calls. Our boiler is working well, and overall we are happy — the folks at Winters are very responsive when we call; communication is great, and both the office and the technicians are respectful and professional. But we've had a couple of issues recently with their work. In December 2021 we paid $555 to replace a leaky air vent, but less than a month later it was leaking again and when another tech followed up, it became clear that no new part had actually been installed. That issue has been fixed now (at no additional charge) but a couple of weeks ago we found that one of the zone valves Winters replaced just a year and a half ago has failed already (the previous one lasted over 10 years), to the tune of another $743. The replacement was installed solidly but at a tilted angle so it no longer fits inside the metal sheathing around the radiator (photos attached). Overall everything seems to be working well now, for which we are very thankful. But it no longer feels like a 5-star experience.

2020 review (5 stars):
Zane wrote the estimate for the boiler and zone valve replacement project for our condo building. He was extremely responsive, answering all of my (many) followup questions over several phone calls. We got quotes from 5 different companies and Zane was the only one who pointed out that we had a lifetime warranty on our current stainless steel water tank so we did not need to replace that part of the system. He also carefully did the sizing calculation up front to determine that we could safely downsize from our previous system. Between these two items, he saved us thousands of dollars.
Brad did the installation for us. He took great care with every detail, keeping me fully informed of the status as the project progressed. He cheerfully answered all of my questions, explaining what he was doing and why. The whole project took a bit longer than we had expected but it was well worth it — nothing was done in a rush and I feel very confident in the quality of the installation. (I might have slowed him down with my questions but thanks to this, I was able to get a good understanding of the new system so we can keep it properly maintained.)
All my interactions with the front office have been really positive as well. Everyone has been very courteous and they seem to be right on top of things. This is a huge factor for us since it removes any uncertainty about scheduling and billing. It seems to me that everyone we've interacted with at this company is in the loop and working together to make sure we are happy.
From start to finish, we had an excellent experience with Winters on this project. We're looking forward to working with them to keep the new system maintained (and maybe do some A/C work for us as well).

  • Patrick Labadia rated it 5/5: Vinny & Lucas showed up to my door about 40 minutes after I called, they immediately diagnosed the issue ( and were super patient and sweet to both of our rescue pups ) and immediately gave me 3 options to fix what was wrong with the HVAC unit. They even tried a 4th option and IT WORKED!! They even let me hang around and ask all kinds of questions and provided me with super helpful tips and ways to get the most life out of our unit. I’m recommending them ( and WHS ) to everyone I know and all you first timers looking for quality work done on your HVAC system! Thank you so much guys !!!
  • Lynn Chosiad rated it 5/5: We've used them twice now, once to repair our tub faucet (a relatively urgent repair), and since then to install 2 new sink faucets (less urgent). Each time we appreciated reaching a person very easily to schedule the issue, they were very on top of letting us know when they were arriving – both giving a window ahead of time & then when on the way – and were helpful and professional when working, and being in our home. We've had problems previously getting contractors to be available more than once, (somehow!), so we really appreciate how easy it is to reach them & how they're able to schedule quickly, as well as reliably show up to perform the service! They also seem to charge a flat rate per service, (plus any parts of course) not by the hour, which seems to ensure that they'll do the job right, rather than only focus only on how quickly they're getting it done.
  • Bruce Leslie rated it 5/5: Our water heater died and we called. They got us an early appointment. When a sooner one opened up unexpectedly, Angela called to see if we were interested. Lucas and Danny did the installation, the neatest and most articulate plumbers we have ever had. They worked smoothly together, efficiently, explained what they were doing and why, showed us alternative models online, and even left us a little water heater to tide us over until the big one arrived (we hadn't thought to ask). They gave us 10 minutes' notice before arriving. New to Boston, we have found our new plumber! We recommend wholeheartedly and without reservation.
  • Tim Weiskel rated it 5/5: Rafael Guzman, the professional technician that Winters sent to work on our problem was VERY good. On time, very competent and highly skilled and experienced, he was able to analyze the problem at hand and devise a solution.
In addition to installing a new garbage disposal unit in the sink he thoroughly inspected our heating system and then purchased and installed a new thermostat. He then proceeded to program its electronic controls and showed us how to change them if we need to do so.
He was quite accomplished, and if we ever need assistance again we will be requesting him to work on whatever project we may need help with in the future.

jen s rated it 5/5: My experience is always wonderful with. Boston Standard. They text me to let me know the technician is on the way and send their name/photo so I’ll know ahead of time who is coming. Brent was great! On time, professional and explained exactly what he was doing. Clean up afterward which shows great respect for my home. They are a consistent 5 star company!

  • Robert Principe rated it 5/5: From assessment to completion, this project couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Boston Standard staff was consistently punctual and professional, work was clean and organized. The inefficient WeilMcClain boiler relied on a maze of piping to supply our radiators and storage tank and was sitting on over 24 sq ft of limited basement space. The new wall mounted Lochinvar combi system gave us unobstructed paths to our laundry area, with clear supply lines, an easily accessible shutoff/purge valve for multiple zones. Air intake/venting were strategically placed to avoid patio area (which was greatly appreciated for aesthetic reasons). The electrical team was equally impressive utilizing the existing chase to run wiring for multiple thermostats, exterior sensor and multiple zone relay. The project managers were constantly involved and followed up to ensure all worked well. The rebate team ensured we sent in required documentation in a timely manner. This project moved us from a system 75% efficiency rating to a top of the line 95%. We truly appreciated the varied possibilities offered during the initial walk through. This knowledgeable team ensured that we set our house up to meet energy needs right now and for expansion projects in the near future. It was lovely to work with a company that layered in all necessary teams from assessment and planning, to removal and disposal of old equipment to complete installation with both electrical and plumbing and to receive high quality service from all.
  • Emily Geller rated it 5/5: Boston Standard provided excellent service last week for our AC unit. We were able to get an appointment within a week of calling which is rare in the summer. The technician was helpful and was able to access our unit on our roof. He didn't have a part on hand but called another representative in the area who brought him the part and the repair was made that day. Good timing too as the next day was the hottest day of the year so far and our AC worked wonderfully and kept us comfortable. Thank you!
  • Tracey Robinson rated it 5/5: Throughout the process of selecting, financing, and installation of my new heat pump hot water heater, members of the Boston Standard team were knowledgeable, helpful, respectful, and efficient. Although they may be slightly pricier than some competitors, the quality of service is worth it to me. There were minor communication issues about Mass Save rebates but it was resolved quickly and respectfully. I also used Boston Standard last year to install a heat pump hvac system. I recommend them highly.
  • Carolyn Goff rated it 5/5: We’ve been customers of Boston Standard for years and have always been so happy with them. They are very responsive and have a great team of friendly and knowledgeable professionals. We had a bathroom floor being replaced and needed the toilet pulled and then reinstalled after the floor dried. The scheduler did a wonderful job (as always) working around my timeline. Brian did a great job with the pull and the other technician with the reinstall (who’s name I’ve forgotten sorry!) both were super efficient, knowledgeable and such genuinely nice guys. Great company! Thanks to you all.

Gregory Cooper rated it 5/5: I originally scheduled for what I thought was a simple kitchen faucet hose replacement. It turns out that my very old plumbing had some corroding shut-off valves that needed replacement. Jess and Dominic were outstanding. They communicated everything super clearly, and expertly handled some surprises (mislabeled pipes in the basement, etc.). They were extremely friendly and professional, and the original scheduling process was a breeze as well. I'm new to Boston and didn't have much info to go on — glad I trusted the other reviews and connected with Akian — will be using them for future plumbing needs.

  • K P rated it 5/5: Naomi handled most of the administrative details when i first contacted the business. She was so kind and helpful. Very pleasant and responsive.
Evan, plumber, came out to assess the problem with my water heater. He was amazing. Very knowledgeable, very accommodating around my needs, thorough and professional. On top of this, he is a delight to work with.
At this writing, i am working with scheduler to set up the water heater replacement appointment. My schedule is horrendous–but team is working hard to accommodate my specific needs.
  • Kathleen Potter rated it 5/5: Akian did a great job installing my new water heater. After setting up the service with Naomi and Evan R.–both of whom were very pleasant to work with, were exceptionally responsive to my needs and requests–I worked mostly with Tara, George and Dominic. Tara handled the administrative tasks amazingly efficiently and thoroughly. She was very helpful around my multiple scheduling needs—getting the new water heater installed when i had very little free time before I went on vacation, for example. Meanwhile, George and Dominic installed the water heater. Besides being courteous and accommodating, they knew their stuff. They put in a better brand heater than I have had the the past, explained its features and workings, and cleaned up thoroughly. They too were very agreeable and a pleasure to work with. All in all, Akian left me feeling that I was in good hands. In my view, Akian is a well-run professional company that I will use again, should a need arise.
  • Jonathan Muise rated it 5/5: Greg and his team did a fantastic job installing a 4 unit mini-split system and condenser in our house. They were always professional, courteous, and great with communicating about any changes. They were always considerate when entering our home. The job they did was as professional as they come. They clearly know their business and i feel like we got a top notch installation, and would definitely use Akian again. Highly recommend!
  • Marissa Cardwell rated it 5/5: I reached out to Akian with a malfunctioning boiler. They were professional and courteous and able to fit me in same day despite not being a regular customer. Everything about the scheduling was organized, clear and timely. The engineer who arrived to assess our system (Manny) was professional, knowledgeable, and very thorough. The process was transparent and he walked me through everything he did and how he arrived at his assessment via diagnostics. He tracked down the parts and arranged to come back and finalize the fix quickly. I am very satisfied with my experience and will use Akian going forward for boiler maintenance and repair.

New England Ductless is a locally owned and operated business that specializes in ductless air conditioning and heating systems. They have been in business for over 10 years and have a strong reputation for quality products and service. They offer a wide range of products and services, and their prices are very competitive. They have a showroom where you can see their products and speak with a knowledgeable staff member. They also offer installation services.

Dan Glidden rated it 5/5: I used New England Ductless to convert over to heat pumps and I couldn't be happier! We initially had oil supplying baseboard heat and hot water and ducted central air. They installed new air handlers in our attic, updated the spiderweb of attic ducts, new condensers outside to supply the air handlers, and two mini-splits.

The entire time I worked with Ryan (project manager) who walked me through the whole process, from initial consultation through job completion. He is knowledgeable, professional, kind, courteous and I never felt like he was trying to "sell" me. Request him!

The install crew led by Renato were great, professional and left our home clean (they wear booties inside the house which is a nice touch!).

Now our home is cool and comfortable as summer ramps up. I couldn't be happier with New England Ductless. They ever help submit all the necessary paperwork for mass save rebates.

Thank you New England Ductless!

  • Andrew Harmon rated it 5/5: I had New England Ductless install two mini-split AC units connected to a single compressor outside my home. Samy and Mouhcine were professional, courteous, and all around excellent. They were on time every day and finished the installation ahead of schedule. The work was very well done and they kept me informed at every step of the process. They even worked around my two kids who had to be in the house one day. The units are working great and my house is finally comfortable during the summer heat. Thank you New England Ductless, especially Samy and Mouhcine for top notch work!

  • Scott Hartley rated it 5/5: I had a great experience with the team at New England Ductless installing a new whole home mini split AC/heating system. From the initial visit and quoting, they were responsive and willing to adapt and identify the best solutions that fit my home. The installers were fantastic as well, both professional and courteous. They walked us through the install, and made suggestions on optimizing the layout and routing. They also took the time to go through the operations, and tips to maximize efficiency. I was pleased with the entire experience.
  • Jeff Luckett rated it 5/5: I had three estimates before choosing New England Ductless. They were not the cheapest, but they were clearly the most knowledgeable and professional of the contractors to give me a quote.

During our first visit, they discussed our wants and needs, took measurements of the whole house, plugged the numbers into their algorithms and gave us an appropriately sized system for our home right there. They didn't pressure us to sign, and totally understood that we'd be getting other proposals before making our decision.

Before signing, they fielded many questions from us to help us make our decision. Responses were always prompt, professional and accurate. They know what they're doing with heat pump systems and they don't play games.

Once the contract was signed, they scheduled us a few weeks out. The kept every appointment and showed up on time. The installers were great guys – very friendly and everyone had a great "can do" attitude. Every aspect of the installation went smoothly, and the final result was very clean and professional looking.

They also provided assistance with securing our HEAT loan, as well as handling all the paperwork for state rebates and incentives, as well as all of the warranty paperwork.

I recommend New England Ductless whole-heartedly and without reservations.

  • Leslie Greffenius rated it 4/5: I wanted to give NE Ductless 4.5 stars, but that was not an option.

Positives: Generally very professional and responsive. The installers even masked and wore booties in the house to protect our floors. Our rep helped us apply for the interest-free heat loan and the office even helped us obtain the state rebate.

Negatives: We encountered some communication issues e.g. workers showing up way earlier than the window the office gave us. At one point, I waited for someone to come and fix a small problem only to discover the technician had come before the window specified, and fixed the problem outside without letting us know. As a result, I waited for two hours when I needn’t have waited at all. Our installers did a fine job as far as I know, but no one explained how we should operate the system. Finally I called to ask for help understanding how to program the new thermostat they installed (why they gave us a new thermostat we also didn’t know) and the interaction between it, the mini-splits, and our oil furnace.

Positive again: When I called to ask questions, they made an appointment to have someone come out within just a couple of days. Justin, who came today, carefully explained everything to our satisfaction. He was also quite personable.

Tracey scales rated it 5/5: My condo association recommended Trust 1 Services because they were willing to go above and beyond in an emergency situation where no one else was available to do so, and I could not have been happier. VERY pleased with the quality of work and service given from beginning to end. I also had an emergency situation and they fit me in right away. In addition I had a huge checklist from a broken toilet needing all new innards to leaky/new faucet installations, to needing a complete heating system tune up. Mark R the technician was patient, addressed all of my concerns, and remained courteous, professional and clean throughout each task. He proved to be very knowledgeable and experienced. • Michael Arminio rated it 5/5: I was very pleased with my recent experience with Trust 1. Matt and his team were able to quickly diagnose the problem with my furnace and gave me a couple of options ranging from a fix of the existing issue to a replacement. I chose the replacement along with some additional work on my boiler and could not be happier. As we did not have heat in the house, they were able to quickly fit me into their schedule and even provided a space heater to get through the night. Matt was up front about all costs and provided the pros and cons for each option. The whole crew (Nick, Dan, and Brandon) was extremely professional, and I would highly recommend working with this company. After install, they followed up that evening to make sure everything was in good order and that I was satisfied with the experience. I am very happy with the work done and am glad to have found a dependable HVAC company that I will use for years to come.
  • Julie Jurgens rated it 5/5: The Trust1 team came by to maintain my heating system and did a phenomenal job. They were communicative and clear with scheduling, conveyed all relevant information about my system to me during the inspection, including potential issues that I might need to look out for down the road, and gave me a detailed report summarizing the health of my heating system when finished. When I first moved into this building, I had constant issues with my heating system for some time, but thankfully have had no problems since Trust1 stepped in. I would highly recommend working with them!
  • Langelo rated it 5/5: Oil heating system leaked and was beyond frustrated having to deal with such unexpected issue! Tony the sales was personable, and approachable. The quote he offered was $4000 more than another company which I showed him. But what he promised was that I would NOT get any headache and he would help with filing the rebate with Mass Save to change from oil to gas. He delivered on that promise! I had zero headache and after 3 months just received my rebate. The installation team, Anthony and his assistant Joey were professional and on time. I didn't have to waste time babysitting them and went to the gym while they did the work. Danielle who did the schedule for the installation was great as well. I am pleased with the company, the people I interacted with. They were friendly and professional. I would highly recommend using Trust 1 Services. Thank you!
  • T.J. Girsch rated it 2/5: I'll start with the positive: The workers who came out were courteous and professional, and they did excellent work.

My problem here is that the price was OBSCENE.

I called them out to replace the kitchen faucet, which had broken. It's a job I'd normally do myself, but I just had wrist surgery. I had already shut off the water and disconnected the faucet, so all I needed them to do was remove the old faucet and install the new one, which I had already purchased and had on hand.

When they arrived, they quoted $605 — SIX HUNDRED AND FIVE DOLLARS — plus the standard $99 truck charge. So my options were to pay them a hundred bucks to do nothing and go look for another plumber who would do it for the $200-300 I was expecting, and lack a functioning kitchen in the meantime. Or I could grit my teeth, pay them a little over $700 to do one of their easiest jobs of the day and at least have a functioning kitchen right away. I opted for the latter.

As predicted, they were here less than an hour.

Adding insult to injury, they tried to upsell me on a $200 annual "membership" that would provide a 20% discount on this and any future work.

As I noted at the outset, the work they did was excellent, and I have no complaints there. It simply should have cost half or less what they actually charged me, and that left a poor taste in my mouth.

Gemma Sole rated it 5/5: We had an entire Mitsubishi 5 head HVAC system we needed replaced after an electrical surge in November wiped out all our heating during thanksgiving. James came to check it out within two days and was super informative, professional and direct. After struggling with insurance (pro tip, always report to insurance – usually surges are covered) we were able to pull the trigger and book to start the work within a week. Molly and Thomas were our main HVAC and electrician techs and were very communicative and helpful in explaining the process and “gotchas”. I feel 100% more knowledgeable about my HVAC and how to run it efficiently.

In addition, I was working from home the entire time and they were very gracious – hardly noticed them as they performed the work over 4.5 days. After the work was completed, I noticed a noise and they came back to check it out and fix the settings so it was no longer a problem. Can’t speak highly enough of the team.

  • Michael Hagan rated it 5/5: This was the second time we’ve hired JB Pride and again James was fantastic! He assessed all of the outlets we wanted to replace and some meter readings for a thermostat in our bathroom and gave us a really reasonable quote. He did an excellent job of explaining everything that he was going to do.

He took meticulous care in keeping his work area’s clean and tidy. He also took the time to take a look at our electrical panel to make sure everything in there looked good.

I would highly recommend JB Pride to anyone looking to have electrical work done in their home.

  • Alicia Rubio rated it 5/5: Colton and Scott were incredibly professional. They worked quickly to address our outlet and breaker issues and made all of the necessary repairs in a single visit! I would recommend them to anyone.
  • Abhishek Dass rated it 5/5: Colton Dyer from EHC was my assigned technician. He was very responsive, kept me informed about the arrival time. Inspected my panel, explained what the problem might be and fixed it. He was very knowledgeable and I had a wonderful interaction.
    Overall a very pleasant experience.
    Highly recommend
  • Jessica Grauer rated it 5/5: James came out to install recessed lighting and a switch for us. They came out to give us a quote the next day and to work the following week. They were very professional and super courteous (trying hard not to wake our sleeping toddler). The work was done well, we would definitely use them again.

  • Ryan Sullivan rated it 5/5: This past Fall we had a couple of projects in our home performed by Atlantic. One was to fix the supplemental radiant heating in our home that hasn't worked since we moved in several years ago. The other project was to replace our A/C units and air handlers that were badly in need of an upgrade.

Both projects went very smoothly. I felt they did a great job of reviewing our current setup, explaining our options, and helping us decide what approach was best. We've had a number of different contractors and services done on our home recently and I can say that Atlantic has by far been the most professional. Timely call backs, starting and finishing the work on schedule, a very focused, friendly and courteous crew for each job. And they were extremely clean and respectful of our home while they were doing the jobs. Definitely above and beyond others that have been working with us recently.

The radiant flooring worked fantastically this winter – I wish we had called to fix it so much sooner! We installed the A/C in late fall so haven't had a chance to use it yet but we are looking forward to this summer knowing we have a more reliable and efficient system in place.

No hesitation to recommend Atlantic to anyone else.

  • J F rated it 5/5: We had an issue with our water heater, originally installed by Atlantic, and the response from the company was outstanding. The unit was working so we were never without hot water, but within a few days of the original service call the unit had been replaced with a new one. As other reviewers have commented, everyone from the person taking the initial call to the guys that did the installation was courteous and professional. Derek and Alex went above and beyond to make sure that everything was just right and that all our questions were answered. Great work, very happy.

  • Margaret Cusick rated it 5/5: I had an amazing experience with Atlantic. They installed a Bosch heat pump as well as ductwork throughout our entire 3 story house. We weren't sure what system or brand we wanted at the start but the very knowledgeable salesman, Jamie, walked us through all of our different options and what would work best for our house and our needs. The installation went so smoothly. Andy is a true professional that made sure everything was staying on track and that we were fully satisfied every step of the way. He took such great care with every step – he even made sure they didn't leave a speck of dust anywhere at the end of each day. The rest of the Atlantic team including Darren, John and Liam were wonderful as well. They're experts in their field and it shows. I would (and have!) highly recommend them to anyone and would not hesitate to call them again.
  • sheila mclaughlin rated it 5/5: From the start of contacting this company, to the end of installation., I had nothing less than professionalism. The sales rep William was very informative and responsive to every question and/or email, the installers David and Sheng were both absolutely amazing, the job they did installing my furnace was immaculate, great demeanor. and again as professional as can be. I have nothing negative to say about this company even my interaction with the administrative assistant, Rachel was great, they were ready and willing to answer any questions and/or concerns, amazing communication. And fast and proficient work. I would absolutely use this company again!

  • Sherry Chu rated it 5/5: I highly recommend this company. They are professional, responsive and knowledgeable. I called the company this morning for a replacement AC condensate pump that caused a leak. Owner said they were able to come out on the same day and not only that, but they arrived on time. Their work was thorough and the owner was able to explain to me some issues that I may encounter in the future with my AC unit. And before leaving, they made sure they cleaned up everything. I am so glad to have called I & C Mechanical for help, I am very pleased with the service. Thank you so much!

Kudos to Irfan for responsiveness, availability, and for pricing fairly.

George Martinez rated it 5/5: We got a Baikal Mechanical crossflow cooling tower installed at our plant and it has performed a lot better than expected. We could've got this system from another company, but Baikal Mechanical showed us they were willing to bend over backwards to do what we needed, and they really did. It's amazing so many all-stars are under one roof. There is unanimous appreciation for Baikal Mechanical across our board. We may use them again sometime.

Most relevant reviews:

  • Steven Foley rated it 5/5: I can't believe getting a fan farm installed was so easy. It was quite affordable too. Baikal Mechanical knew exactly what we needed, and they designed a system that was perfect for our concert hall. Finally, we don't have to worry about air quality and airflow negatively affecting our patrons. I’m sure we’ll see more seats fill up now. Talk about money well spent. My colleagues and I are quite pleased.
  • Anthony Cain rated it 5/5: I swear by Baikal Mechanical and the comprehensive commercial air purifier they installed for me last month. It has already delivered amazing results. You can really notice a difference in the air quality. And in this time of Covid variants coming out every other month, I need to know for sure that my air is as good as it can be. Finally, I have peace of mind, and I have Baikal Mechanical alone to thank for this. Keep up the good work!

  • David Morriss rated it 5/5: My Baikal Mechanical air handling unit is better than I expected. It doesn't vibrate as much as my other one did, it doesn't make as much noise, I don't have to worry about it overheating, and it's designed much better. If only I went with Baikal Mechanical first. I never would've wasted money with the unit I had before. Oh well! You live and you learn. Baikal Mechanical is exemplary in my book, and this review is long overdue.
  • Franklin Mora rated it 5/5: I swear, since Baikal Mechanical installed a modern air purification system at my office, airflow and air quality have both been improved tenfold. I'm pretty sure at this point, all of my employees have said something about the improvements. In my mind, this shows that getting an air purification system from Baikal Mechanical was a good move. Anyone who's looking to get cleaner air in their workspace is making a good move going to Baikal Mechanical. Trust me!
