Craig Landes rated it 1/5: We've used Michael & Sons before, and assumed they would be perfect to replace an old mechanical thermostat in a single-stage system, with a non-programmable digital Emerson. We bought the thermostat and had it already, and only wanted help with some confusing wiring. We figured the $90 "diagnostic" charge, then maybe $50. It would be nice if the "diagnostic" charge was part of the final charges, but no. That's separate. Okay, but at least it makes business sense.

When the "diagnostic" was completed, the estimate to do the installation was $288.75. Then there was North Carolina tax of $27.39. So including the "diagnostic" charge and tax they wanted $405.14. Are You Kidding Me?!!

This was the last time we'll ever call Michael & Sons. It's sad that the corporate leaders are now so greedy for money they no longer have any interest in customers. The technician was really excellent (they all are!), and was as shocked as we were at the computer-generated estimate. He checked with the office, and was told that's the price.

Good-bye Michael & Son. Alas; for we knew you when you were a decent company.

We had him come in to add a few boxes for various light fixtures around the house, and one light he moved over for us within the room. He took his time, and he kept me involved in the decision making process which I really appreciated! Even after staying longer than I’m sure he planned, he ended up installing one of the light fixtures for us because we didn’t have the right tools. He did a fantastic job, and we will surely have him back in the future!

Daegan came out to diagnose the issue and came back the next week to complete the work. He was extremely quick with the repairs and even noticed we had a loose doorknob and unprompted just fixed it real quick. My wife and were impressed with his level of service and professional and helping us find the most cost efficient options as well. I'll definitely be using them for future needs!

Their tech called and let me know he could come earlier and wanted to know if we could accommodate. I said that we could and a few minutes later received another text with a picture of the employee, Pete, that was coming, along with some of their hobbies. Very cool. When Pete arrived, he was very courteous, respectful, knowledgeable and willing to help and answer all our questions. Pete recommended a few options, we chose the best one for our needs and Pete got to to work removing our old water heater and installing a new one. From the time I called to the time Pete finished was approximately 4 hours. Their price was comparable with other plumbing companies and Pete’s expertise and attitude put them on top, even though they were $100-$200 more than the other company. Very satisfied with our decision to use Michael and Sons.

The install was done by different guy than the estimate. He did mostly fine, although I had to help him get the old water heater drained. A third guy game to inspect the installer's work. He had to send the installer back out to correct caulking around the vent duct, and even that still sucked – he used red caulk on the exterior of our light gray house, so now I'm going to have to cover that with white or gray just so it doesn't look awful.

In the name of "bringing our house up to code" they also charged us $500 to install a water pressure reduction valve, so now it takes longer to fill the coffee pot, the shower isn't as invigorating as it used to be, and watering the lawn takes longer.

Ultimately, we now have nice clean hot water, so it's all good.

  • Timothy Bunn rated it 3/5: I Initially contacted the company to arrange plumbing repairs on 01/13/23 and made an appointment for 01/15/23. I was contacted shortly after and the appointment was changed to 01/16/23. No one came and no one called.
    I contacted the company the morning of 01/17/23 and Mr. Travis Gibson came about lunch time. He apologized for the oversight and performed an inspection to identify the problem and actions needed to correct it. He was courteous, professional and informative. He said he would draw up a proposal showing work to be done and a cost estimate and would email it to me.
    A week went by and I didn’t hear anything. I contacted the company again on 01/23/23. It was discovered that my email address was incorrect. The correction was made and I was told the information would be sent soon. It was not.
    I called again on 01/30/23 and expressed my disappointment. I was told the plumbing supervisor would contact me in 20 minutes. She did not. Mr Gibson contacted me later in the day and we talked about the problems. He got everything done. He sent the proposal and got approval for the job and took care of everything else. He is the only reason I didn’t call someone else to do the job. Mr. Gibson came on 02/08/23 and worked for several hours to complete the job. As before, he was courteous, professional and informative. He was neat and took extra precautions to avoid making a mess in the home and he cleaned prior to leaving. If I do business with this company again it will be because of Mr. Gibson. He was the only one that seemed to care and the only one that acted on my behalf.

Me being a first time home owner I was clueless regarding either having repairs done on my water heater or having it entirely replaced. I may have been taken for a ride because I was recommended on having it replaced completely. They came and installed the unit but it was poorly installed. I would’ve done the review but never received the email from the office. You may need to invest in step ladders for your crew because they used a plastic chair I had sitting in my garage and nearly broke it. I am not using these guys again.

Came home from work waited all evening no show no call.received a text stating someone in dispatch wouldn’t call, never received a call. I called the customer service center several times that night( it was a cold night) was told someone would call but they never did. At 9pm that night rescheduled for the following day for a service call between 10-2. Took off from work again. No show no call. Again did receive a text confirming my appointment and was told someone would call me but they never did. Received a text Saturday morning 10/22 at 10 am starting someone was on the way. I was at work at the time and my husband was not home . Called my husband so he had to change his plans and head back to the house to meet the tech. Was told we needed a gas valve replacement and someone would call us to make sure we wanted the work done before they would order the part. Surprise! no call. Called corporate customer care was told our business was very important. Give him 48 hours to call the branch and he would get back to us. Guess what? No call. We left a message on his machines Tuesday 10/25 and still no call . Today is Saturday 10/29 and still no call. We do not know if the parts been ordered. Throughout this ordeal was have called and spoke to several people who assure us they will look into thing and get back with us. I understand that they are probably under staffed but someone could s as least call and let us know what going on. At this point I would like to call somebody else to do the job but we purchased a unit for them and it’s still under warranty. It’s less than two years old. We paid $170 for the original service call and do not want to call another company to order this part and pay for another service call. We are very patient people But this is beyond ridiculous. This is very unprofessional for a corporation this large.

The technicians are their front line people that arrive at your home and all the good technicians that provide excellent service have LEFT! (Which should have been a warning to us to leave this company as well). Now it's just "anybody" that they can find to fill time slots and appointments with no regards to customer service (rude) and doesn't' have knowledge (or skill) of what needs to be done. This is very disappointing and unacceptable. Kindness and customer service should be of the up most importance when running a business as well as highly qualified individuals to do the job. We will have to take our loyalty where it's appreciated and our business (and money) are respected. I also noticed in the the last few months several other customers have experienced situations such as mine, take heed to the other 1star reviews.

The specialist, David R., was very knowledgeable and took time to educate me about everything he did and found. When David arrived on Tuesday, it didn't take long to determine that a new unit was needed. We discussed options and agreed upon the product and total price for the unit, parts and labor. As a good consumer, I did some casual Internet sleuthing that evening to see how much the unit would cost if I purchased online. It was no surprise, as I've worked with Yellow Dot for years, that the price was right in line with what I'd been quoted. David was at my house early Wednesday morning and had our new unit fully installed by early afternoon. As anyone would be, I was bummed I had to drop coin on a new water heater right at Christmas (just what you want to spend your money on, right?) but after seeing the new unit fully installed, it was clear that the money was well spent.     Technician was on time and very personable and professional. Took time to review our previous service calls. He Serviced both our units in a timely manner. As he was leaving, I mentioned to him that I heard him making more noise than I was used to, it wasn’t until this morning that I realized why. I don’t know what happened, but he had screwed the frame to our attic access.
    It looked like the frame had come away from the ceiling. My husband will repair it, I just wished the technician had mentioned it to me.

It was a 2-day job on cold days so they provided me with 2 great space heaters (the oil-filled radiator types) to help with my home heating while work was being done. The crew working on the job was very professional and experienced. They did not try to rush the job and focused on quality/doing things right. I would hire them again.

The technician team arrived on time in Sunday morning and the issue was completely checked and suggestion of replacing the damaged unit was give in details. Code Oliver came the afternoon and explained the replacement very clearly, answered questions professionally and gave the proposal. The new unit was ordered quickly. The installation team came on time two days latter and the new unit was installed, tested in few hours. We have comfortable environment again. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Justin and much to our surprise the installer, Sean (sp) was just as professional and walked us through everything he did as well as the hows any whys. You can tell this company has very high standards of excellence and it is apparent in their people and what makes them stand apart from the rest. I truly hope the owners of Allen Kelly know how lucky they are to have Jason as an employee.

    A change this year is requiring payment before they will schedule annual maintenance visits. Do you pay your auto mechanic, plumber or electrician before he does your service?

    Apparently online payments are not immediately visible to phone associates until they "clear." So even though I received a payment confirmation, I was told they could not schedule service because I still owed a fee. I needed to speak to accounting.

    "Maintenance" does not include keeping the insulation on outdoor coolant pipes in good condition. There's an extra charge for that service and it must be requested, even if anyone can look and see it is not in good shape.

    We inherited this company when Blinson Service Co. went out of business. Mr. Blinson provided transparent full service you paid for once it was done. The interactions with AllenKelly are just not the same.

The crew from Santa Air was on time, polite and respectful of my newly seeded grass. LOL. They did a clean installation of a big Lennox gas pack and they left the area looking better than they found it. John the owner came by later to check on the installation and to install my new thermostat. He customized the system to also run my home humidifier with a new Nest wifi thermostat. Brilliant! And he set everything up and helped me download & configure the app.

I appreciate the personalized service and attention to detail Santa Air provides. Good old fashioned customer service! They really work hard to make sure the customer is happy. I will use them again.

I did this because the early technician available was 4 days later. The system was working with the replace of the PS and still wished to have a qualified tech to have a proper diagnostic check. All it took was less than 5 minutes for the tech and the verdict was everything is good but you have a 16 year old system.This was not free and $99.99 plus tax was charged.
    My system didn’t work at all and I had to call Santa air office 2 days later and the person whom I spoke said well , we have technician available but will cost you more?
    What is the kind of evaluation Santa air expects, 5 Stars??? I still didn’t give out my opinion publicly. since they responded I must let the public to the reality.
    I have fixed the issue and I doubt any of the techs would have figured out the real issue by visual checks!
