Ashenafi Maru rated it 5/5: Our sewer main outlet was clogged. The first technician cleared the dirt that clogged it from out side but the problem happened again after a week. The company sent another professional called Angeleo and he cleared it from inside. I appreciate the company for solving the problem both times and sending its professionals the same day we called them. This staff Angeleo is excellent in his profession and very friendly. Keep the good work. God bless you.

  • Anne Stanford rated it 5/5: I had a drain back-up on my outside drain. The tech was very quick to diagnose and snake the drain. He left the area very clean. Super happy with very fast service. I made an online appointment at 10am and the tech was here and gone by 4pm. Excellent.
  • Lena Emara rated it 5/5: We had two clogged toilets and a fill valve that needed to be replaced to resolve a leak. Our technician was very punctual and responded quickly, and they offered very reasonable pricing. We’ll definitely use them again.

  • Charles Ros rated it 2/5: Was told that a tech was going to come out between a 4-hour period. However, they had to reschedule for the next morning after it went over the time period.

The next morning, they came within their time period window. For a bathroom sink that was clogged, they originally were going to charge about $700. When asked why it would cost that much for a job that seemed small, they then showed the price for a big job, which would be $1100.

The tech offered to reduce the price to $395 when we offered to pay cash. The tech said he would later return in the evening to do the job. We ended up canceling the appointment. It honestly felt like they were trying to rip us off with that price. Instead of using their service, ended up using a drain snake and unclogged the sink ourselves.

Pros: good customer representative service, answers calls timely and respectful
Cons: expensive, didn't honor 4-hour time period

  • Cloud Hub Computing rated it 1/5: O don't recommend this company to anyone. I did use the services and they provide very poor quality. The team they send you are not professionals and they do not know what they are doing. They have ruined my place saying they're going to fix it but when it comes to fixing most of the part they say it's not our job. So if it was in your job why do you ruin my place. Then they do some magic tricks showing their contract that they are only drying company or something like that. I have lost thousands of dollars because of them. Just find anyone else.

Zach Geller rated it 1/5: My experience with Magnolia was abysmal. I called Magnolia on a Thursday asking them for the first available appointment because my air conditioner was dripping a lot of water every time it turned on. They said the first time available is that Sunday… fine, I get it’s the busy season. Sunday comes along and the technician’s equipment, a wet vac, isn’t working and says he will have to come back when it is working. He notes that the cause of the problem is likely the condensate line and that he will call to schedule the new appointment. Days go by and I don’t hear back from him or anyone at Magnolia so I called again. It is now Wednesday, 6 days since my first call. Miraculously, they say he can come that day! I stay home that day and wait for his call but it never comes. Late that evening I get a call from the tech saying he can’t come that day but he’ll be there Friday morning. He arrives on friday morning with his wet vac and nothing else and vacuums out the condensation pan and then asks for paper towels – I figure he’s cleaning up some of the splashed water that got on the walls and floor. Then he says something along the lines of “if the problem persists, we will need to rebuild the condensate line” and hands me his card reader to pay the bill. $189 dispatch fee and $235 for vacuuming out the pan. I was shocked. Had I known he was just going to vacuum out the pan for $235 and not actually fix the problem, I would have spent the $200 at Home Depot to buy my own wet vac. Unsurprisingly, the drip started back up within the day but was coming from a different spot now. I followed up directly with him and then with the dispatch team. I asked for them to apply the money I already paid to actually repairing it… a full week later and I still have not heard back. I’ve never felt like anyone has ever taken advantage of me so aggressively before. $424 is no small amount of money, especially considering the time I needed to put into this for negative results. Not to mention that when I hired a more competent company to clear the condensate line, they found the paper towels I handed the Magnolia tech shoved into the pan which caused the leak to move and damage even more drywall. I’m still waiting for my refund. Make this right, Magnolia.

  • Art Hahn rated it 5/5: Fantastic!
I can't praise Magnolia Plumbing Heating and Cooling enough! We needed a gas line leak replaced so we got 5 estimates. Magnolia's quote was 70% less expensive than the others! The technician, Nelson, was the only one that informed us about a much less costly option ($760) than what the others proposed, which were all over $3000! The others were going to bust up my patio flooring and replace an entire segment of the pipes, leaving me with the cost to replace all the flooring. They claimed that Washington Gas would not pass the inspection if they didn't replace the entire line. Magnolia replaced only the portion that was leaking and did not have to dig up my flooring.

The technician was super friendly and easy to talk to, but also very professional. He was not only able to answer all my questions but also provided in-depth explanations and kept me informed of everything he was going to do in advance.

In addition to the technician being awesome, my experience communicating with everyone at the company was also great! They sent me texts and called me to keep me well informed of when the technician would be coming.

I highly recommend Magnolia and will be using them for all my future needs!

  • Bobby Becker rated it 5/5: I'd like to take a moment and commend the Magnolia team for their professionalism, knowledge, high level of service, quality of work and good communication throughout our whole project. We deal with many service contractors and Magnolia has set themselves apart. I noticed this from the start from the quoting/planning phase and it continued through project execution. We had a last minute code issue get flagged by the inspector (no fault of Magnolia) and they handled these changes fairly and appropriately. It has been a pleasure dealing with everyone I interacted with. I would highly recommend Magnolia.
  • Richard Ingebretsen rated it 5/5: Excellent and prompt professional service. Our technician, Saeid, was courteous and took the time to explain what he was doing, what the problem was, and what needed to be done. Any time an additional item or potential problem was mentioned, it was done in the way of suggestion and not a pushy/salesman like manner. I have always had a great experience with Magnolia Companies, first as a renter when they were the emergency plumber our landlord called when our unit started flooding at midnight, and now as a homeowner with an old HVAC unit. Highly recommend!
  • Harry Fang rated it 5/5: I've used Magnolia for our HVAC and plumbing services. They hire quality service engineers and came with masks and shoe covers. For the AC issue they quickly fixed the issue (Cleaned out the filter in the closed recirculation system, which apparently is a common problem with the building). The plumbing inspection which came at a different time was done for free, because we have a maintenance contract with the HVAC group. They found a small leak under the bathroom sink because of not properly tightened drain lever cap. Good quality service personnel. Their schedulers also typically call us before they come. The last time they called to tell us they were delayed and we would have to reschedule as it was late in the day.

Steve Kramer rated it 5/5: I have been a Spartan customer for several years, now, and always found their plumbers to be well qualified and professional. For today's job (which was to repair a leak in our sink), David was no exception to this rule. I found him to be not only incredibly competent, but extremely polite and cheerful. He carefully explained all of the work he would be doing prior to performing it. He arrived exactly on time and cleaned everything up before leaving. And the area below the sink is now completely dry! I will be requesting David the next time I need plumbing assistance. Thank you, David, for your great work!!

  • Janis Benson-EL rated it 5/5: Our Spartan plumber Anil Das was
wonderful. Another company told us our sump pump was corroded and needed to be replaced. I called Spartan for a second opinion and because they installed our sump pump 5 years ago. Anil was so nice, honest and professional. He showed us the sump pump
did not need replacement and there was no
corrosion on it, it was just a bit of dirt. The float and everything was in good condition.
We are seniors and we appreciate honesty.
It’s so unfortunate other companies try to
take advantage of customers. We will stick with Spartan and Anil Das will be our go to
plumber. Thank you Spartan for a great
    plumber and great honest service.
  • E Bey rated it 5/5: We have been a customer of Spartan since 1987 and have always been satisfied with their work. Today, was no different! Anil Das was extremely efficient and knew the issue immediately. He was patient and took time to explain what was happening with our water pressure. There is no other company I would recommend to do my air conditioning, plumbing and heating. Great service! Kudos to Anil!
  • Laurel Miller-Sims rated it 5/5: A technician was dispatched within an hour of my call. Jorge was an absolute professional and clearly skilled and knowledgeable. Jorge was also frank, thorough and easy to work with. He explained all our options so we could make sound decisions regarding the needed plumbing evaluation and repair. Spartan will be completing the job this week.
  • Luke Esposito rated it 3/5: I was extremely pleased with the initial communication, scheduling, and corporate team that I worked with to set up a service call for my toilet. They contacted me within the hour and got out to my tenants the day of my request. I CAN recommend them for the quick service if you need it.

However, when it came time to diagnose the problem at my property, I was extremely displeased with the pricing for the work. They noted that I needed a fill valve and a toilet handle that needed to be replaced. Working in the property management world, I had an idea of the cost of the material and a general idea of the labor cost associated with this fix.

The fill valves MSRP for around $8-$15 and the handle is roughly the same price as well. This does not include labor and markup.

I was quoted $780 + the $99 dispatch for this fix. I simply could not in good conscious accept that price for the scope of work. I have since contacted another plumber who performed the work for about 20% of this price. I understand a world of inflation and cost increases for both material and labor, but I felt that this was a disingenuous pricing for the work needed.

With this being said, I'd still look at giving Spartan a bid, but understand what you are getting before pulling the trigger.

DC Guy rated it 5/5: Top notch, five-star experience for replacing an entire HVAC system.

Estimate and Responsiveness:  Tom K. was our point of contact and I suggest asking for him by name.   Tom has an easy going attitude, is very friendly, professional, knowledgeable and accommodating.  We talked through the details of what I wanted to get done and he was able to generate a very fair and reasonable estimate. I never had a problem getting a hold of him by phone or text and his responses were always quick.  He coordinated everything for our demo, carpenter work and installation and everything went smoothly. He kept me informed each day as to what time I could expect the next day's activities.

Demo: Kenny and John made short-work of removing the old system.  They used drop cloths and made sure to keep a tidy work space.  They quickly dismantled and removed the system without an incident.  Both are very friendly guys and easy to talk with and they know their trade well.

Carpentry: Part of our project required removing drywall, replacing insulation as well as leveling the floor. Amado was off the charts good. Very professional and detail oriented, just a great experience as he made easy work of the project and cleaned everything up when he was done.

Installation:  Again had the A-team of Kenny and John complete the installation of the new system. As mentioned, the guys know their stuff and it was a seamless install.  They got me hooked up quickly, did a diagnostic check, installed a new thermostat and made sure everything was working.  Polite and friendly guys with the right combination of experience and knowledge to make the job an overall great experience.  Jimmy G even stopped in himself to ensure we were happy with everything.

Overall, the kind of experience you want and expect to have from estimate to install.  I have no issues or complaints.  I'd deal with the team members mentioned above and have no reservation about recommending them.  Five-star worthy experience.

  • Theodore rated it 5/5: I had a fantastic experience. Jimmy personally came to my home on a hot night on short notice when my air conditioning stopped working. I have a toddler so it was a dire situation. Jimmy understood. He went above and beyond and exceeded my expectations. His colleague, Carlos, also helped and was very professional and thorough. I highly recommend the business for air conditioner services. Also, there were NO "UPSELL" tactics which is refreshing nowadays.
  • Adam Morgan rated it 5/5: When the condenser fan motor died on our 20-year-old AC, we called Jimmy Gusky to replace the whole thing. They responded immediately, and had a new condenser and air handler in our home in four days. Their price was less than the competition, and Jimmy even came by to check on the installation. A first-class company.
  • K T rated it 2/5: We used Jimmy Gusky because of the great reviews, and we have a preference for using small, local service providers when they come with such strong reviews. Unfortunately, for A/C replacement and duct repair, our experience was absolutely terrible. They were great to speak with, and kind. But when it came time to get the work done, they were just waaaaay out of their class. The new, top-end unit was running at its highest speed and couldn’t cool our average DC townhouse to less than 80 degrees. Their response “That might be the way it works.” Seriously? After more than $12,000 with Gusky, we hired Sila and they shook their heads when they saw how the Air Handling Unit had been installed. Besides obvious leaks where they hadn’t sealed it, they had an unnecessary return-air set up. Sila’s Tech’s words were “This is irresponsible. It’s just wrong to treat people this way.”
So Gusky may be wonderful at some repairs and other items, but in my experience, they should be avoided for system replacement.
  • Steven Wood rated it 1/5: I had previously given this company high marks for the furnace that they had replaced. I then hired them to do a simple shower faucet replacement, this has turned into a nightmare! They do not communicate, schedule, and no show. I am looking into firing them and bringing in another company to clean up this mess AND make my bathroom usable again. I have found out that the plumbing was installed too far back from the tile surface, so the knobs will not go on as they should. FMITA!

Lauren Arrigoni rated it 5/5: Mike Fleming saved our day and our house! We called and he instantly was able to come help us and was so incredibly informative. He was able to fix the issue and give us instant estimates for future projects. We can’t say enough wonderful things about this company! Fixed our gas leak when Washington Gas Company said we would have to wait til next week! Thank gosh for Mike Fleming and Tim Whistler Plumbing and Gas!

Most relevant reviews:

  • Travis Clark rated it 5/5: Plumber was on time, efficient and took the time to explain what he was doing. Mike repaired a gas line and installed our new oven. Most importantly, he was very patient with my dog, who is a hot mess.
  • Zach rated it 5/5: My wife and I have used Tim Whistler Plumbing for a few different jobs since we moved into our 1940s era house, which has presented a few plumbing challenges. Every time, they have been great to work with, being responsive in scheduling appointments and being on-time and communicative (including offering to come earlier if they are able to).

We've had pipes replaced, installed a new shut-off, and replaced a sink and a faucet. They have been up-front about the costs, time, and possible issues with any repairs, so I've always felt like we were being given plenty of information to make any decisions. Mike and Matt have performed each of the jobs we've had, and they've both been very professional and we're very satisfied with the work.

  • Anna Irving rated it 5/5: We had an amazing experience with Tim and his team to install a gas line and stove (switching from electric). The quote and scheduling service was prompt and they made the permit/inspection process a breeze. On site, his team was extremely courteous and respectful to take care of the floors/space. Thank you so much!
  • Douglas Bruno rated it 5/5: In short, I would recommend this company for your gas-fitting and plumbing needs, on account of several factors. If you are planning for a project and time is not of urgency (as opposed to emergency on-call repair work), Tim Whistler's estimates/quotes are good for ninety days, compared to other companies whose are for thirty, or even fifteen days. This allowed me greater flexibility time-wise and budget-wise, and their initial estimate was provided to me in under 48 hours (other companies took a week, or longer to get back to me). Another deciding factor for me was the willingness of them to negotiate the fee lower for the initial consultation visit that I thought to be unreasonably high when other companies charged zero. Being able to bargain with them as well as the quick turnaround of the initial estimate spoke to me of their professionalism and seriousness in their daily work and for considering my proposed scope of work. The crew that came on the day of to complete the work were professional, knowledgeable, answered all technical questions, and thoroughly cleaned up after all work was completed.

  • Destiny Williams rated it 5/5: Donzelle is amazing.  He is professional and very knowledgeable in what he does.  He was able to fix my drainage problem with my bathroom tub.  I went with 2 companies before being recommended to Donzelle.  Glad to now have him to take care of all my plumbing needs.  Definitely recommend.
  • Justice Woods rated it 5/5: He was awesome! I spoke with him on the phone about my issue and he troubleshot with me over the phone prior to coming in person. We spent nearly 15minutes on the phone going over all possibilities. With his help I was able to identify the issue and fix it on my own! I appreciate and respect his advice in identifying the issue, but also his honestly in not attempting to hide the issue in order to make money and fix it himself. He actually said “if I can save you time and money, I’d like to!”

  • Peter Boller rated it 5/5: Mr. Jenkins is the best plumber for the best price in DC. I had three quotes come in for the work I needed done on my basement and they were all at least 3- 10 times more than Mr. Jenkins’ quote. He was timely, communicative, and professional. Stops searching now – you found your plumber!

  • Quang Truong rated it 5/5: I can't recommend these guys enough! I needed a new sump pump put in, and they:
    – were one of the few places to give me an actual quote rather than saying "let me send someone for an inspection and we can work out the price then…"
    – showed up when they said they would
    – completed the job quickly/professionally/for the quoted price
Definitely glad I hired them for their expertise as well…a small issue came up because of how the previous sump pump was installed, but they were able to scramble quickly to figure out a solution, run to the plumbing supply store for a few extra parts, and still get the job done in the same day. Will definitely use them again if I have plumbing needs in the future.
  • Justin DeShazor rated it 5/5: Mr. Jenkins is an EXCEPTIONAL plumber, and I would highly recommend his services. When he came to replace two outdoor spigots, his price was fair, his work quality was great, and the work was done quickly. I will definitely be coming to him for any plumbing issues or renovations I have in the future.
  • Chris Ward rated it 1/5: How are they getting almost five stars? So I had a clogged bathtub. Water stopped draining. Would’ve tried to fix it myself, but as a renter who’s moving soon I didn’t want to buy the equipment, and I’m short on time. I call them because of their rating, and they say they’ll be here at 11am. So I call at 11 to ask where they are, and they say, I have you down for 2-3pm. Then at 3 when there’s no sign of them I schedule another plumber. At about 5:30 they text me saying they’ll be here in 10 minutes. So I cancel the other plumber. They’re lucky I was home because I almost went to the exhibit at the Middle East Institute. I pay them almost $300 to do something I could’ve and should’ve done after watching YouTube, but they did unclog my tub so they get a star

  • Karyn Greenfield rated it 5/5: I want to give a shout out to DJ and #1 DMV Plumbing! My sink clogged up during this freeze we are having. I called #1 DMV Plumbing and talked with DJ. He said it could be due to the frozen weather and gave me some suggestions. He also did he had a full day but would fit me in, and called me back to let me know he had not forgotten. I did what he recommended, and the ice did melt and the clog cleared! I would highly recommend #1 DMV Plumbing!
  • Colton Watson rated it 2/5: This plumber was hired by my neighbor above me to make some repairs to their bathroom. During the repair they accidentally hit a pipe and sent a flood of water into my unit that required some expensive repairs. At first DMV was responsive, apologized, and offered to fix the issue. Because of the mistake, we asked for license and insurance but was met with combativeness and refusal to present the requested documentation. Well that created a lot of trust issues and we ended up hiring another contractor who presented documentation immediately upon request. My kind neighbor ended up paying for all of the repairs out of pocket. DMV took his money and left my neighbor hanging. Would not recommend.
  • Chris Maier rated it 1/5: We contacted #1 DMV plumbing because the tub spout in our primary bathroom came off. This was on Nov 17. A plumber named DJ responded to our call and came out a day and a half later. He came out twice over the next few days — never arriving on time and never with the tools he needed to fix the job. He told us he'd be back on Nov 19 — a Saturday — to complete the job. We stayed home all day and he never showed up, never answered his phone, never responded to texts. When I finally got ahold of him on Sunday, his response was (direct quote): "My apologies my phone was shut down yesterday." Three days later he came again (reminder: this is all to replace a broken spout), but he had bought the wrong spout. He said he'd be back the next morning at 9am, which is was Thanksgiving morning. "You sure?" I asked him. Three times he shook my hand and said, "No problem at all, this should only take a few minutes. I'll be there." Well, on Thursday morning, he never showed up. I called him. I texted him. No response. We pushed back our plans to drive to Pennsylvania to wait for him to arrive. Nothing. To date, he's never returned our calls or texts, has never fixed the problem, and still has our original spout. Just ghosted us — and wasted a ton of our time. On top of this, it's been 12 days since we've had a working shower. I understand that things come up or schedules change; basic communication and courtesy can go a long way, but we didn't experience either of these. Steer clear of #1 DMV Plumbing. These guys are not professional or dependable.

(To make this a little more clear, we contacted #1 DMV Plumbing 12 days ago. In the attached photo, you can see the current state of our tub/shower. And we haven't heard a word from them in five days. Needless to say, we have a real plumber coming in the morning.)

  • GM Maillis rated it 1/5: Do not use this company! We have a rental and our tenets called them to snake the toilet, but they didn’t bring a snake. They went out of town so we took over coordinating the issue from there. We scheduled for an appointment, the plumber did not show on time we continued to call and couldn’t get a hold of anyone. Finally, around 6pm we got in touch and they said they would not be able to make it that night so we scheduled them for the next day. He showed up 2 hours late and did not have the part he needed so he then went to HD to get it, then went another HD to get it then called and said he had to go to one an hour away. At this point we called someone else. There is no reason not to bring the right tool, they knew the issue and they still arrived late unprepared to do the job.
