I set the boxes out the scheduled box pick up day. Although, my boxes were never picked up. I called the company and was informed the boxes weren’t picked up because they were wet, even though it didn’t rain. The military moving company cut me a check for $100 and told me to deal with the boxes myself and nothing else could be done. I called around the area and received outrageous quotes. Although, when my team from Got Junk arrived, they took time to listen to my story. Not only did they listen, but they actually cared. We have to pay our taxes and they don't have to provide the services for which those taxes are paid.

Drew Petzold rated it 4/5: The Virginia Beach Landfill & Resource Recovery Center is located in the western part of the city on Jake Sears Rd. near the Chesapeake city line. It is not too far off of the Centerville Turnpike and is essentially just south of Regent University. In some areas, there isn't parking per se, but there are spots to get out to dispose of the items you are looking to get rid of. My visit here was on March 9, 2021.
Sometimes it seems like you may go through some back roads to get here, but it really isn't too bad. Once you get to the entrance, a staff member will be there to check your driver's license or other proof that you are a Virginia Beach resident, since it is only open to those residents. They will ask what you're looking to dispose of and your zip code for tracking. In this case, the reason I was here was to dispose of old gasoline from the gas can the prior year. It wasn't much, but I wanted to make sure it would be disposed of properly. The attendant asked if it was under 5 gallons, which it was, as that is the limit per visit. She then directed me to the direction I needed to go to dispose of said gasoline.

After getting through the entrance and directions, we headed over to the gasoline disposal area. Please note that the roads in the landfill are not paved. With the directions given, it was quite easy to get where I needed to go. There were a few attendants there as well, and they also asked for our zip code for tracking. After that, I was able to go over to the motor oil dumping area to dump the old gasoline. Once that was done, we were done and were finished. The road in and out is essentially one big loop, so make sure to follow the directional signs when leaving as well.

The regular hours for this place is Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 am to 4 pm. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays. This coincides with the actual trash collection dates done in the city. There are times where they may need to close early or temporarily due to weather or other safety reasons, but it doesn't seem to happen too often.

Overall, even though you would think it looks like a mess there when dropping waste off, they actually have a pretty good setup and really works like a well oiled machine. The staff were friendly and made the process easy. Although I only came this time to dispose of gasoline, there are many other items that can be safely disposed of. They do have a list of some common items that they will not accept on their website, so be sure to check that first before coming down. If you are a resident of Virginia Beach and need to dispose of certain items that can't be done through regular trash or bulky item services, this is your go to place to dispose of said items.

They would not let me gain access because the truck was commercial. Paid taxes for 45 years, needed to use this service once and wasn’t allowed because I don’t own a truck! Thanks for nothing. My daughter is glad she moved to Richmond!

When I tried to contact them they always rescheduled to Friday. Then they do not pick up on Friday. Today is Monday and dumpster still full. This is a paid service. This is not professional. They tell you trick will be there the next day and the drivers never show. Everything is blamed on COVID or the lack of drivers. It could be true but they had the same issues prior to COVID. Additionally, everyone is being charged a different rate. It ranges from $16 quarterly to $40. I cancelled my service and 2 weeks ago and can’t get them to pick up the can. I have left 2 messages for their town manager and he hasn’t returned any calls. Sorry recycling service.

Pickup after a holiday is non existent if you don’t call to complain.The manager had the audacity to tell me on a missed pickup on a Friday that his workers were gone for the day and it was 1:00 pm .Talk about incompetence and he seemed very unapologetic.

We hired the Junk Uncles team to remove some significant debris left over from a tree removal project that didn’t quite go as expected. To say my backyard was a disaster area would be an understatement. The team came in and knocked out the cleanup job in a coupe of hours and for a price that especially agreeable considering the work and the final product. They were very friendly, communicative, and reliable/on-time (a rarity these days). We’re sure that there will be more work to come, and they will be our first choice.
Pictures show the completed work. I didn’t have a picture of the disaster that they had to clean up, but the one tree was over 60-ft tall and included branches and trunk prices from other trees in the backyard. The stacked wood is being kept for firewood.

If you need your cleanup project done right, definitely call the Junk Uncles! You’ll be happy you did.

I had called around to several junk removal places over the last year both local and national, to help unload some of my parents’ belongings. All of those businesses told me to schedule a month (or two or three!) in advance. I don’t get to visit my parents often but when I do, I try to have services done within the time I’m with them. Though discouraged, I googled local services again and this time, The Junk Uncles popped up. My husband and I believe the quirkier the name the better the business. Sure enough, from the first phone call with Dominique, I knew we didn’t have to look any more. I told them what type of things we were getting rid of and they were able to schedule us next day!

Dominique and Jay cleared off my parents lawn of random things we had pulled from the garage and they even carried big bulky metal desks and solid 1980s furniture down from the second story. They worked hard in the sun and moved through cramped and tight corners – all while trading stories and jokes with us.

Dominique and Jay ended up making 2 trips for us, carefully filling each trailer to the brim. Aside from the larger furniture, they also separated the things that could be donated, even offered a donation slip! They took cardboard boxes and some trash to dispose of, then broke down things that weren’t salvageable. They even let my mom take a couple whacks at a bookshelf with a sledgehammer! She had a BLAST! (She’s already told all her friends!)There were pieces of wood and glass everywhere but they cleaned up everything, and in the end it’s like they were never even there!

I will definitely be calling The Junk Uncles again and I will recommend them to all my friends and family who are in similar situations with their folks.

Gus Gee rated it 1/5: If I could give less than a 1 star, I would. The Bulk Pick Up staff are rude. The drivers are lazy. And a supervisor who came to my house lied to my face. I have submitted 3 pick up requests and they fabricate excuses not to pick my trash up… even though they have picked it up 2x before under the EXACT same circumstances. I VERY much would like the head of the department to contact me. However, with the corruption I have witnessed in this department, I doubt they have the courage to talk to me directlly.
Shameful.

Update: 4/28/22… After resubmitted a bulk pick up request, following the inspectors instructions, and getting a confirmation email, Sanitation still didn't pick up my bulk. Further, they did pick up bulk from a neighbor from the spot they told me wasn't acceptable – while leaving mine behind AGAIN. This service is verging on corrupt.
Perkins2243 rated it 1/5: Every other week they either forget to pick up my recycling completely, spill trash over my yard, or fail to empty the full can. In the past 12 months I’ve had to replace my recycling can twice because these dudes don’t know how to operate their machinery! Not to mention the time that they accidentally tore down a power line. The employees tend to be incompetent, leave trash scattered in-front of yards, have no problem speeding down your neighborhood, and won’t put the effort to make sure they’ve gotten all of your trash. How can you have one job and screw it up so consistently? And you can bet that any time they make a mistake on their end, it will be resolved at their own convenience, if at all.
For your recycling needs, I would highly recommend any single other recycling or trash service in virginia beach unless you want to deal with constant headaches like myself and my neighbors have. I’ve set up a camera pointing at out cans, so starting now I’ll be able to record and share these experiences with others.
Ms.leogurl88 dragon rated it 1/5: Call and ask if they can clean all those junk behind our fences,it's a state according to all home owners here,but I still did clean it,talk to the operator and ask them to pick it up since I put all those junks and clean cause I can't wait for them,take note I called them many time and even emailed ?Mr,Jerry Brown said hell take care about all the junks here he said he'll take care of it it's been 2 month nobody even came it's a hazard environment and mosquitoes are everywhere…What I did I cleaned some and now they don't wanna pick it cause they said they don't do bulky pic up…worst experience ever!!!! And I think they only sit there in their office looking busy doing nothing.

Branches are still on the curb. 5 promises given. 5 promises broken. They are ridiculous. Rude and liars. We are elderly. Can’t pick them up and don’t have access to a truck. Amber D rated it 1/5: Someone needs to implement some sort of training for the garbage truck operators. It's *very* common to see garbage cans dumped all over the place haphazardly all through the neighborhood. I'm talking cans laid down in the street, cans that fell over into the grass, and cans in driveways.
The drivers act like they get paid per dumped can so they rush. Only time they take their time is if someone's outside.

Curbside pickup and yard waste is great, imo. Never had a problem with them. Recycling is great, too. My Recycling can is always placed properly after disposal.

So yeah, I get that it's just garbage cans but it looks messy, it's inconvenient, and the cans still have some weight even when empty so some people might struggle to get the cans back upright.
